A Hayward EC40 D.E. filter may experience a short cycle—where pressure rises quickly and the filter clogs soon after cleaning—due to several common issues. One of the main causes is dirty or partially clogged fingers inside the filter. Even after backwashing, residual debris can remain trapped in the fabric, restricting water flow and leading to rapid pressure buildup. Additionally, fine particles such as algae, pollen, or dust can overwhelm the filter media. While DE filters excel at capturing microscopic debris, this efficiency also means they clog more quickly when the pool water contains these contaminants. Another contributing factor is a high bather load or the presence of organic materials like body oils, sunscreen, or plant matter, all of which can coat the filter media and significantly reduce its runtime between cleanings.
The Filtrapodz are a great product to use with a Hayward D.E. Filter. The Filtrapodz will catch very small particles/debris and help keep your swimming pool crystal clear while also relieving stress on your filter system.
