If your chlorine level is testing too high on your Frog test strips, even with the infuser dial set to 0, it’s usually caused by residual chlorine still in the pool or by the solar cover trapping chlorine since sunlight isn’t able to naturally burn it off. A new chlorine pac can also still release small amounts even when the setting is turned off.
The best way to bring levels down is to remove the solar cover during the day and let sunlight help break down the excess chlorine, while running your pump to keep the water circulating evenly. Avoid adding any additional chlorine or shock until the reading drops back to the proper range, which is usually 0.5–1.0 ppm for a Frog system. If the chlorine is very high and you want it to come down more quickly, you can simply remove the chlorine pac and run the pump without the chlorine pac in the cycler for a day or two.
In most cases, leaving the cover off for a day or two alone will bring the levels back down naturally. But if you prefer leaving your solar cover on the pool, then the easiest way to lower the chlorine level would be to remove the chlorine pac from the cycler. It’s also best to avoid swimming until your chlorine is within the safe range.
