This heat pump is equipped with a water flow switch that activates only when there is sufficient water flow circulating through the unit. If the pool pump is turned off, or if it is running at an RPM speed that does not provide the heat pump with the required GPM flow rate, the display will show an E3 error code.
Because of this feature, a separate timer is not necessary to ensure the heat pump shuts off when the pool pump stops running. The heat pump also includes a built-in timer function that allows you to schedule ON/OFF times for convenience, but it is not required to protect the unit in the event of low or no water flow.
