When replacing the pump on your HydroTools 19" sand filter system, you can’t use just any pump, it needs to be compatible with both your filter and your plumbing layout. One of the most important things to match is the discharge orientation. Sand filters typically use pumps with a vertical discharge (the outlet points upward into the multiport valve). If the discharge orientation doesn’t match between your pump and filter tank, plumbing changes will be required to ensure a proper and secure connection. You also want to stay close to your original pump size and flow rate so you don’t over- or under-circulate the water.
We also recommend replacing your pump with a new pump made by the same manufacturer. This helps ensure a proper fit when installing the new pump, this way you know the plumbing will line up with the rest of your existing equipment. If you’re looking to save on electricity, we would recommend purchasing the Hydrotools 1.5-HP Variable Speed Above Ground Pool Pump - Vertical Discharge: https://www.thepoolfactory.com/produc...
This replacement pump has the same horsepower as your original pump and it is also made by the same manufacturer as your filter system, Hydrotools. Variable-speed pumps are the most energy-efficient choice, as they run at low speeds for everyday filtration and only ramp up when you need power for vacuuming or backwashing. This can help cut energy costs significantly.
