Preventing
Pool Cover Damage
During the Winter
Pool Covers protect your pool all winter. Prevent damage from wind, snow, and water buildup with proper maintenance, secure installation, and regular inspections.

Why Winter Protection Matters
Winter can be harsh on above ground pools. Snow, ice, and strong winds put stress on winter pool covers. Proper maintenance helps extend their lifespan. A damaged winter cover can lead to increased expenses. Taking preventive steps now saves time and money later.
Choosing the Right Pool Covers for Winter
Not all covers work equally as well in the winter. Look for heavy-duty materials designed for extreme weather. Reinforced edges and strong grommets help prevent tearing. A tight fit reduces wind damage. Investing in a high-quality cover protects your pool during the winter season.

Secure Your Cover Against Wind Damage
Strong winds cause major problems for pool covers. Loose covers flap, rip, and detach. Use cover clips or a winter cover sealer to keep everything in place. These cover clips only work with the following pool models: Bristol, Boreal, Cameo, Del Rey, Melenia, Saltwater 8000/LX, Saltwater Aurora, Saltwater 5000, Signature RTL and Intrepid. If you have a different swimming pool model use a vinyl-coated cable and winch (cable tightener) or cover sealer to secure your winter cover to the swimming pool. An air pillow beneath the cover prevents sagging. Checking the winter cover after storms ensures it stays secure.

Prevent Snow and Ice Buildup
Heavy snow puts pressure on your pool cover. Too much weight can cause sagging or tearing. Use a soft brush to remove snow after storms. Avoid sharp tools that might damage the cover. If ice forms, wait for it to melt instead of breaking it.
Protect Against Water Accumulation
Water pooling on the cover creates stress points. A cover pump removes excess water efficiently. Regularly check for standing water after rain or melting snow. Keeping the surface dry extends the life of your pool cover.

Inspect and Repair Small Tears Early
Minor tears quickly become big problems. Inspect the cover every few weeks for damage. Small holes can be patched with repair kits. Ignoring small tears leads to complete cover failure. Taking action early prevents costly replacements.
Keep Your Pool Cover Clean
Dirt and debris weaken the fabric over time. Leaves and branches also add unnecessary weight. Use a leaf net cover on top of your winter cover for extra protection. A blower or broom can also be used to remove loose debris. A mild soap solution helps clean stubborn dirt. A clean cover lasts longer and looks better.

Store Pool Covers Properly After Winter
When winter ends, store your cover the right way. Dry it completely before folding to prevent mold. Store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. A storage bag protects it from dust and pests. Proper storage ensures it's ready for next season.
The Benefits of Proper Winter Maintenance
Taking care of your pool cover extends its life. A well-maintained cover protects your pool all winter. Avoiding damage saves money on replacements. With the right steps, your cover stays strong through the cold months. Preparing now makes next summer easier.
